The Director of the Museum of Pico, Dr. Manuel Francisco Costa Jr.,
opened the session by explaining that the museum operates
within the ideals of our cultural policy and gave a brief
description of the author and his work.
“Manuel da Silva Rosa is a natural of Madalena, Pico, resides in U.S. A.
since 1973 and has dedicated the last
15 years of his life investigating the history of Cristóvão
Colombo, (Christopher Columbus) a fascinating and mysterious
figure of our collective history, (and controversial) part of
World History. Manuel da Silva Rosa is now considered, by the scientific
community, one of the most competent and acknowledged
historians of “our time” in things related to Cristóvão Colombo.
Starting
from a new perspective of analysis of the history and anchored on
solid documental evidence, the author shows the scientific
inconsistencies, errors in analysis, lies, and falsehoods of the
official version of the history, traditionally attributed to the
origins of Christopher Columbus, giving us new clues and new ways to
interpret the documents. The legendary navigator is theoretically
seen within the theatre of the political rivalry between Spain
and Portugal at the end of the XV Century. The book,
“O Mistério
Colombo Revelado” (The Mystery of Columbus Revealed) shows
how
Columbus was working as a spy for King John II at the Spanish
court and is the pinnacle of all the bibliography published
about Columbus.
This book is a decisive
contribution to resolving the Christopher Columbus problem. This
should makes us all proud because Manuel Rosa is "ours" he is
Portuguese, Azorean and born right here on Pico."
After this introduction the author did a PowerPoint presentation
showing the basic premise of the research and then with a
questions and answers session
followed by an autograph session. Afterwards Army general Simas admitted
having been convinced that Columbus could only have been Portuguese and
applauded the "precision of the research, the broad knowledge that
Manuel Rosa seems to possess being able to answer to 'off the top of his
head' precise details, dates and events and how they interact into this
history."

13
April, 2007 in São
Roque do Pico, At the City
Municipal Hall and presented by
European Delegate Dr. Duarte
Freitas.
Dr.Duarte
Freitas,
pointed out the success that the book has had with academics and accepts
that Manuel Rosa has hit the mark in proving that Christopher Columbus
could only have been a nobleman and never a poor wool-weaver from
anywhere, (be he Genoese, Spanish or Portuguese) and that only a
Portuguese nationality can answer all of the facets of his life.
Dr. Freitas believes that the doubts
remained until our days because the history was wrong stating that
"the doubt about Columbus's life in itself is enough to raise our
curiosity about the book, which makes us reflect on the "official
truth" that having been repeated time after time along the centuries
doesn't mean that it wasn't a lie."-
